Breakdown!

Hey GuGu bloggers! This week we bring you Breakdown, an LA based duo who promise to rip you a new arsehole with their sharp synths and mean bass.

Their latest creation is a remix of the new Daft Punk track "Derezzed," the idea of which came from them being obsessed with Daft Punk, Disney and Tron :) The stabs and tech percussion in this track drive harder then a road raging redneck in an 18 wheeler and with a massive drop like this, your dance floor better be equipped with airbags!!

So without further ado, have a listen to this damn song! :D

Also this week: another must hear from the Breakdown lads

Check out their Soundcloud and Facebook for more awesome tunes!

TOYC

Hey all, hope the snow isn't putting you off your raving too much! Definitely got the blow up airbed out down a hill yesterday! Staying classy.

This week we bring you TOYC aka Andy Sheen, a local Nottingham producer/DJ. We met Andy last year when he came and dropped a storming set at one of our events in Nottingham. He's sent us over his latest track which has been playing on my itunes a whole lot recently! His fast paced percussion, funky grooves and smooth bass remind me of L-Vis 1990. Download his latest track "See" here (and here only because it's a GuGu exclusive, baby!)

Download: TOYC - See

Definitely check out Andy's Soundcloud and have a listen to his other tunes too!

Tribal Riot!

Something a bit different this week GuGu crew! Today its all about Tribal Riot - the biggest thing coming outta Leicester since Gary Linekar's ears! Their bio reads:

"Out of the ashes of a punk band came Tribal Riot, an electronica duo from Leicester who fuse elements of electro, metal, house and indie over broken beats. With a dynamic live show and fiery DJ sets, Tribal Riot have arrived."

With their heavy synths, banging beats and large bass sounds, these guys are the ones to watch. The punk/metal background brings in a whole new galaxy of new sounds/attitude which sets them aside from the competition! These guys WILL get you on your feet!

This week Tribal Riot have been kind enough to give us 3 exclusive tracks for you guys, so props to them for that! These tracks are 2 of their own original productions - be sure to check them out!

Download: Tribal Riot - Fire (Club Mix)

Download: Tribal Riot - Shoot To Kill

Like what you hear? Catch Tribal Riot playing a live and DJ set @ Sumo in Leicester on the 3rd December. Also be sure to check out their Soundcloud and Twitter pages to big em up! :)

Matt Sayers!

Good afternoon GuGu blog! Got some new beats for you.

Another unsung Soundcloud baddaman,
Matt Sayers, a New Jersey/New York native who spins & produces a mix of House and Dubstep.
He is quickly moving up the ranks with his impressive and diverse sound, receiving support from a variety of artists and radio play. With his distinct drops, filthy synths and patent vocal cuts, each song tells an individual story which distinguishes Matt from the rest.

With his debut E.P. brewing and a slew of remixes set to be released through out 2010 & 2011, expect very big things to come out of this artist as he is preparing his invasion on the industry! Trust me boys and girls... this guy is SICK!

Here's some GuGu blog exclusives:

Crizzly - The Texas Hype

Hey guys, apologies for the lack of posts recently. Myself and the rest of GuGu have been rather busy but fear not! We're getting back on the blog harder and better than before.

To kick this week off with a bang I've found yet another overseas producer smashing it in their own country just waiting to be found by a record label! Crizzly, aka Chris Marshall from San Antonio, Texas started DJing "to be better than
some old white dude playing top 40 hits at school dances that no one ever liked".

Has he done that? Fuck yes! After nailing his own night in San Antonio, he has played shows in Austin, Dalls and Houston with some massive artists including Whiskey Pete and Designer Drugs. After starting producing in 2010 Crizzly has kicked out some HUGE jams including a remix of DMX's "X gon give it to ya" and a smattering of his own productions which will blow your eyes out of your arse. But don't take my word for it, check out his soundcloud and these GuGu freebies to murk your soundsystem with!

Crizzly - James Brown Is Dead

Exceed - Exceed's RSR Anthem (Crizzly remix)

Sonar 2010

So for those who don't know, Sonar is one of the world's biggest electronic music festivals. Held in Barcelona, Spain it boasts impressive lineups of some of the worlds finest DJs. This year was no exception!

Radio 1 recorded much of the festival and many of the sets are available to listen to here! Check it out seriously, you won't be sorry you did!

My top 3 forthcoming tunes of the week

In no particular order,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS3_jBZZ6XY

Alix Perez and the mighty Foreign Beggars smash it again with this superb track, "Dark Days". Forthcoming on the new Alix Perez EP which is due to be released later this year on the almighty, Brighton based label Shogun Audio. No official release date set, but rumors are pointing towards it being put out after the next tune in my top 3.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxehe84TjY4

Another well known name from the Shogun Audio camp now, with this fantastic track by the drum and bass badmen known as Spectrasoul. If you've got your wits about you (and a fiver for entry...), you can catch Spectrasoul doing a TWO HOUR SET at Cult on Saturday 2nd July. Check the event page here http://www.facebook.com/massivearsehole?v=wall#!/event.php?eid=121558174552875&ref=ts This track is set to be released very soon, however a date hasn't been put out. Track the vinyl on Chemical Records if you're a hardcore vinyl junkie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WoLmXJHfBI

Last but not least is a tune coming out on Metalheadz, by the legend that is S.P.Y. S.P.Y has been smashing since his first release, with a constant stream of quality. Xenomorph is no exception to this, and is quite possibly (in my opinion) his best tune yet. With a drop that comes out of nowhere, and a bass which would make anyone quake in fear, its shaping up to be one of the biggest tunes of the year. Cop it, children, as the release is coming!

Before I depart, a quick shout out to the badman like Gee, with his youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/drumsandthebass?gl=GB&hl=en-GB This man smashes it for new releases, and is shame-inspiringly overlooked. Subscribe, because he uploads videos for everyone. Be you a jump up raver, or an eyes down, minimal head, you'll be pleased. Big up, Gee!

Next post: some jump up.

Black Noise...

This isn't particularly new but I've been into Black Noise for aaaaaaaaages now so I thought I'd blog about them.

The above tune is an example of one of their originals that's been released but I particularly like their remixes, the first one I heard is the Tonka - Jack Track remix which is biggg! If you don't have it google it or buy it because it's sick and still a regular in my sets when I play out.

Anyway the tune I'm giving away is their remix of Crookers - Business Man I downloaded a while back but never listened to, and I was just listening through some tunes on iTunes and this came on and made me stop what I was doing. It's proper old style big, wobbly fidget, the kind of tune that got me into fidget back in the day... but it's not behind the times don't worry! It's just bloody good.

So here it is:

Bonus:
I don't feel too bad giving this away because it's old as fuck now but yeah...this is really bloody big, from back in the day. The original is really good too but this remix is just mad.

Moby - One Time We Lived (Matrix and Futurebound Remix)

Hi all, quick post to let you know about a couple of cool things which are free. Starting with this...

Moby is easily one of the most unique producers of the past 20 years, with his signature sombre and melancholy sound. You may remember his debut, which was this -

Moby - Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad (YouTube Link)

So how would it sound to you if the drum and bass LEGENDS that are Matrix and Futurebound had remixed one of his tracks, introducing their upbeat, spacey and synth driven sounds to the chilled and stripped back? To me, it sounds incredible!

Download: Moby - One Time We Lived (Matrix and Futurebound Remix)

Cop it, children!

You can also download a free track by myself, called Alas. There is a free wav up for download on my Soundcloud, and very soon there will be an EP of remixes, from man like Fable, Root One, Jaysics, and possibly a couple more, so keep yo' eyes peeled. :)

http://soundcloud.com/ratchetmusic/ratchet-alas

Next week you'll find my tune of the week, my tune of the month, and fresh info on dnb/dubstep producers and DJs in Nottingham and other areas.

Big up children!

A big ol' Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs dump...

I've been playing tunes from this chaps first EP All In One Sixty Dancehalls since I first copped it back last summer and he recently released his second EP All In Two Sixty Dancehalls and it is bloody brilliant. I would recommend you all run across to Beatport or iTunes now & purchase both EPs. To give you an idea of the new one here is a snippet from my favourite track off it...

Evveh I'm sure you'll agree...

NOW!

If you don't fancy buying the EP just yet or are slightly strapped for cash then you're in luck as he is giving away a free mp3 of his track Move On so cop that....here!

Also, because I'm dead nice here's 2 other tracks by mister TEED, one is an original from his All In One Sixty Dancehalls EP and the other is a remix of Crystal Fighters - Xtatix truth...which got remixed to death last year by many a producer and this remains my firm favourite out of them all, in fact I'd go as far as to say it's one of my favourite tunes of last year. So there you go!

Monday 21 June 2010

Todd Edwards & MJ Cole!

Todd Edwards, for those that don't know, has been around for over 10 years now and if any you need proof that he is big in the game then here it is: he co-produced & performed vocals on the Daft Punk track Face To Face.

If you don't think working with Daft Punk is big then I suggest you sit down & take a serious look at your life.

Anyway!

His new tune I Might Be is good...BUT MJ Cole is also very good and has taken the vocals and the melody and crafted them around a beautiful garage style beat. I wouldn't normally play this kind of tune out but I bloody love it and have played it at most of my sets ever since I first copped it.

Not only is the track great but HE'S GIVING IT AWAY FOR FREE!

Bloody hell!

So here you go:

Click the little arrow pointing down on the far right of the player and make sure you leave a comment saying thank you to the nice man!

ALSO!

The lovely people at RCRD LBL have been giving away the Joy Orbison remix of I Might Be too so go cop that here!

My First Post.... Yay ETC....

Hi, I'm Ratchet DNB, hello, hello, hello etc. I just thought I'd give you all a quick heads up to let you all know what to expect in the coming weeks. I'm the resident DNB nut, and as a DNB nut, you would expect me to be into my DNB....and you'd be correct!

Expect the following -

- Info on forthcoming tunes to look out for
- My tune of the week
- Hot tips on big upcoming nights in Nottingham and surrounding areas
- Mixes and tunes from myself and other friends in various parts of the country.

Hope you enjoy the stuff I have coming.

Context MC - Mental Breakdown Music

Okay, as a DJ I get sent a lot of music, some good, some bad and in the dubstep scene a lot that is just very generic. This guy, Context MC, got in touch via Twitter asking if i'd check out his music and i'm glad he did. To be honest, I really wasn't sure what to expect, I was half expecting a bog standard mixtape featuring standard grime bars / themes. I was wrong! This guy is on to something! Go checkout his 'Mental Breakdown Music' E.P here which is available for free download.

You can also find Context MC on Facebook and Twitter.

Sway - Blow The Whistle

This tune is Sway fully on form with his usual clever wordplay and sick lyrics. Not only is this tune sick, but he's also giving it away for free! You can download it from his website: Linky!

Major Lazer - Hold The Line (DJ Madd Refix)

As we all already know, Major Lazer kill it every time and 'Hold The Line' is one of their biggest tunes to date. You may also know about DJ Madd, but if you don't, he's a Hungarian dubstep producer who's moved over to Bristol. This is his remix of 'Hold The Line' and it's a baaaaannngggerrrr!

Adidas HD25s

Okay, I promise I will be your BEST friend if you buy me a pair of these. Possibly the coolest headphones I have ever seen, it's just a shame they're so overpriced! Is it Christmas yet?
